Delia is simply a delight. I wanted a dog who could be comfortable and happy in all kinds of situations, with lots of intelligence and personality. I wanted medium-energy, and I was pretty adamant that I didn't want a dog that should be participating in sports.
I'm amazed every single day by Delia. She's my bestest girl and it's hard to imagine my life without her. She's just beautiful with people and other dogs, adjusting herself so well to whoever she's interacting with. But I always know when she isn't a fan of the interaction, because she'll give me a look, which is my cue to get her out of there! In general though, she loves most everybody, and she has a soft spot for puppies. She can be bossy and nosy, but she just wants everyone to be happy, orderly, and get along.
Training Delia is a joy because she's so intelligent and keen to figure things out. However, she can get bored or frustrated pretty quickly, and she does like to change things up and add her own spin on something, or just offer a different behaviour entirely! With her quick brain and because I talk to her constantly, it was very easy to teach her to use AAC buttons to communicate. Her favourite words are "Outside!" "Play!" and "Help"—and she has expanded and adapted the latter to fit her own unique contexts. One of my favourites is when she came up with "Help! Play!" as a way to specifically ask to play tug—a more cooperative play than just throwing the toy for her.
Confident and curious, she is always up for anything, whether it be a rambling off-leash walk, playing outside with her herding ball, or a lazy afternoon nap. But her mind is always at work, and some of the things she comes up with can only be described as creative.
Of course, she does deviate in some ways from the picture I had in my head when I contacted Tina about a corgi puppy. For one thing, I have my suspicions as to whether she is a dog at all. For another, she's got me dabbling in dog sports and trick training now, and eager to pursue more. But I wouldn't change that for the world!
