Thor is an amazing boy who is nothing like we expected. When we met him, we instantly fell in love, he is the sweetest pup, who came home and claimed it as his own in seconds, much to the dismay of our other corgi Freya. What was most unexpected with Thor was that he had a heart murmur that would later be diagnosed as a ventral septal defect and aortic insufficiency. Basically, this high energy pup was going to have to take it easy. Add to this he was born during a pandemic with panicked owners who had to figure out how to have a dog with ongoing health concerns while actively avoiding everyone. He took it much better than us and let NOTHING hold him back. If fact, his favorite time of the day is when we call out “meds”. I mean, what’s not to love, sure the pills are gross, but it is always followed by kisses and cheese.
His personality was very different from the rest of the inhabitants of the home. We are a house of Slytherins and Ravenclaws and he is all GRYFFINDOR! “Is there a problem? Nope, I will take it out head on.” He LOVES water and is game for swimming in any body of water he can find, be that river, pool or the recently filled water bowl. BALL IS LIFE! And the only way to lay is in a full sploot.
Sadly, we did not socialize Thor enough and he developed a strong reactive streak. Like very strong, he will ‘do a protect’ of his people from that person over there, that dog down the road, that tree that dared to move in the wind… you get it. He is highly perceptive to the emotions of those around him and well, as above mentioned, he has panicked owners. He is very smart and shows promise to earn many titles. He may gripe about the homework, again Gryffindor, but once he learns something he loves to show it off. For now, the focus is behavioral training and trying to find ways to socialize him in a world that plays by new rules. But he loves his people and those who he has selected as part of his inner circle love him and feel the honor of being welcomed in and loved in return.
We hope to eventually give updates that he is able to go out in the world around him with less anxiety and will start racking up the titles. For now, his cute face will just have to get admiration from a distance, and he will continue to soak up all the cuddles he can get from the chosen few.
